RAJO: Quality and intensity of the voice expressed that the flamenco singer uses to bring major emotions and deepness to the song.

RASGO: Proper word of the flamenco language that is equivalent to the duende.

RASGUEAR: When the flamenco guitarist produces rasgueos.

RASGUEO: Technique used in guitar work consisting of strumming the chords in a fast manner, using the fingers of the right hand from the little finger to the thumb or vice versa, with a movement similar to the abanico with the thumb therefore producing a continuous sound with the chords. At times it serves as a mnemonic rule, of harmonious and rhythmical character to identify the fundamental motive of each style of guitar work.

REDOBLE: Action and effect of redoblar and that the guitar obtains when striking the 5th and 6th chord after having mounted one over the other. It resembles the redoble of a drum and from there comes its name. In flamenco dance, the footwork of short duration that is similar to the redoble of a drum. When combined with footwork, in a manner that its action is prolonged during a part, it completes the dance, this is called escobilla.

RITMO: Level of speed that is maintained during the beat of a determined musical piece in flamenco song, dance or guitar. Translates to ‘rhythm’.

ROMANCE: A flamenco song that originated from a special tuning of an individual form of the popular romances of Andalusia; as it does not have musical accompaniment, it is believed to be the most primitive style of flamenco from which songs arose from.

RUMBERO: Specialized interpreter of rumba song or dance por rumba.
